From selling stock from the back of a T-Model Ford in the 1920s to operating a destination store in the heart of Canberra, Frawley’s Shoes is proudly a family-owned business that has maintained its humble core for decades.
John and Ted Frawley, two of seven children, naturally joined their father in the family shoe business during a time when money was scarce and post-war Australia left them with limited opportunities. But with enthusiasm the two men focused their efforts on building the quality of their products and services, which allowed the business to blossom wonderfully.
Our Garema Place shop opened in the late 1950s. It was initially a gamble taken on by the original Frawley brothers, Thomas and Joseph. Canberra was beginning to develop and over the years Civic grew into the bustling destination it is today.
Through dedication to quality shoes and service our store has established itself as a ‘destination shoe store’. Ted Frawley is now semi-retired and his eldest daughter, Lisa, manages the store. She and her team are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable ensuring every customer is met with the excellent service that has been delivered for decades.
With genuine knowledge of clientele gathered through decades of experience, the Frawleys have gradually worked towards specialising in women’s footwear, especially for those who are hard to fit or those who seek comfort. However, the store still maintains stock for men’s footwear as well as current trends to ensure that all of their customers’ needs are met. Our brands include Ziera Shoes, Rieker, Algeria, Kroten, Rockport, and more.
Visit our store at 26 Garema Place, Civic, Canberra City today to understand how our devotion to perfect service has allowed Frawley’s success to continue through three generations.
